On Friday 21st April, we are holding a non-uniform day, organised by the Sixth Form to raise money for Year 13 graduation in July.

Students can come to school in their own clothes and make a £1 donation on the day which will be collected by tutors during registration.

Staff can also wear their own clothes and make a £2 donation.

    Please note:

    • No sliders or crocs will be allowed for health and safety reasons (trainers are allowed as well as closed toe shoes/boots).
    • The school will not take responsibility for any expensive items of clothing that get mislaid.
    • No doo rags or hoodies are allowed.
    • Lanyards must be worn and school bags, PE kit or any other equipment needed for the day is still essential.

Please also consider that it is a school environment and students should be dressed in a way which is appropriate.

  • Message to parents/carers - Tariff changes April 2023

    Published 04/04/23

    Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be aware there have been significant prices increases in many food items over the last 12 months with some significant increases in many items.

As a result, our catering company, Wilson Jones, have been forced to make some changes to the tariff. In order to minimise the impact on our families they have decided to expand price points, instead of applying a flat rate increase across the board.  This means is that there will still be items available at the current price points and also an increased number of options at these lower price points, however, the prices of the higher premium products will be increased.

The cost of a meal deal will increase from £2.60 to £2.75; this will include the price of a free school meal. We firmly believe, and evidence has shown, that if children eat healthily this will help them to achieve both their educational and lifestyle goals.

Please be assured that we know the decision to increase prices has not been taken lightly and believe that the revised prices will still remain competitive with the prices charged in other local schools.

These changes will come in to effect with the new menu change, following the Easter break.

We would like to remind parents and carers that you may be entitled to claim for free school meals. Please contact the main school office if you would like help completing the application form.

To qualify for free school meals you must be:

    • Receiving Income Support and Child Benefit
    • or receiving income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-based Employment & Support Allowance and Child Benefit
    • or receiving Child Tax Credit only with no entitlement to Working Tax Credit and with a gross annual income as assessed by the Inland Revenue of £16,190 or less (gross means before deductions for tax and national insurance) and Child Benefit
    • or receiving the guarantee element of State Pension Credit and Child Benefit
    • or being supported under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999

  • Women in Business Networking Event

    Published 04/04/23

    Women in Business Networking Event

Our women in Year 12 and 13 finished out the Spring term with an invitation to the #BuildYourNetwork event, hosted by Momentum ITSMA. This women in business evening, a celebration of Women’s History Month, was organised by Woolwich Poly alumna Dami Quadri, Class of 2018.

‘As someone who came out of Woolwich Poly Sixth Form, it’s great to be able to connect and inspire current students who are in a position I was once in. Being able to be involved and give back to a school that gave me so much. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for this year’s cohort of Poly students’, said Dami.

The evening provided an opportunity for our students to speed network with women from companies such as Microsoft, Salesforce, Fujitsu and PwC as well as share thoughts and learn how to manage some of the most difficult topics facing women today, like how to balance work and home life, or how to overcome imposter syndrome.

Year 12 student Carmen said, 'I absolutely enjoyed the evening. Meeting new people and discussing both the challenges and the opportunities that there are for young women in the corporate environment has made me more confident in pursuing my career'

A similar sentiment was shared by Sekinat, Year 12, 'It was incredible to meet with women in various careers who shared their experiences in the world of work. I also learnt how important emotional intelligence and believing in oneself are in achieving career success’.

A huge thank you to Dami and all our alumni who continue to contribute to our Sixth Form.

  • Former student donates Bleed Control Kit to WPSfB

    Published 28/03/23

Ryan Biddiss, local man from Woolwich, has kindly donated a bleed control kit to Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys. Ryan visited the school on Tuesday 21st March to donate the kit and meet with Head of School, Mr T Lawrence. Ryan was a former student of Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys and left in 2011. Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys is the first school in the Borough of Greenwich to receive one of these kits, and we are incredibly grateful for this donation. This is the first kit made available in the Thamesmead area.

Ryan is passionate about preventing knife and gun crime and has set up a knife amnesty group – Protect Our Children Patrol. For more information about the group Protect Our Children Patrol

He is also 1 of 14 representatives from the Daniel Baird Foundation Charity who works to spread awareness, fundraise and donate bleed control kits. The Daniel Baird Foundation has been established in memory of Daniel Baird. Daniel was just 26 years of age when he was fatally stabbed in Birmingham in July 2017, following a night out with friends, in an area where no bleed control kit or trauma pack was at hand to use. The family of Daniel Baird believe that, had there been a publicly accessible bleed control pack available, Daniel’s life may not have been cut so short.

A bleed control kit contains all the equipment needed to control severe bleeding and has been installed in our reception and is registered with the ambulance service. These kits work out at £96 each, and you can make a donation to purchase more kits for Ryan to donate at his go fund me page here: GoFundMe

'We are delighted to support the foundation and appreciate Ryan's generosity in providing us with the kit.'
