Our aspiration for our students is to attend an outstanding university or secure an apprenticeship with a prestigious firm. This pathway leads a number of our alumni into successful business careers, many of whom return to speak in assemblies of their journeys beyond the Poly. For the last two years, 30% of our students, on average, attend a Russell Group university to study such courses as Medicine, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics and statistical Science, Theoretical Physics, Law and English Literature to name but a few. We have extended school support for admission tests and interviews for Oxbridge and other top universities. This also includes a free tuition package for the UCAT that takes place between the summer of Year 12 and Year 13, as well as the BMAT.

Woolwich Poly Sixth Form are delighted to have five students with offers from Cambridge University this year: the highest number in the school’s history. 

Fifteen of our Year 13 students applied to Oxbridge - a record number for the Poly - giving us an exceptional 1 in 3 success rate. This figure is particularly remarkable when compared to the national figure of 1 in 7 applicants accepted by Oxbridge.

This year’s number of prospective doctors and dentists also hit a record high, with 8 students applying for Medicine and 5 already having secured conditional Medicine offers at top universities.

Our Oxbridge and Medicine places complement offers from other highly selective and Russell Group universities, including Imperial, UCL, Bristol, Warwick, Queen Mary and Birmingham. 

These outstanding successes are particularly notable when considering the challenges of a difficult academic year.  They demonstrate the resilience and dedication of our students who continue to strive for academic excellence in our Ofsted Outstanding Sixth Form.

This year’s unprecedented achievements are testament to the impact of our Oxbridge Support Programme.  Poly staff have worked hard to prepare students by running mock interviews, admission test preparation and personal statement planning.  The application process was made even more testing as all interviews were virtual, rather than in person.
